Would be nice to have feedback from other VP users, what benefits arise from their point of view from the function "sub issues", which I principally consider as very helpful.

In my expectation, I create a main issue as a "shell" of all relevant dynamic information (planned time, actual time, remaining time, status) of all related sub issues.

E.g. all work logs resported in the sub issues shall be summarized in the main issue. If all stati of all sub issues have a closed status, then I´d expect automatic close status of the main issues, etc.
