Field description - Custom fields (configurable fields of various types)



Short description:


A custom field has a custom name and has a type, like text, select list, user, Integer etc.. They can be used when none of the standard fields meet your needs for a specific field.







Default name: (None)

Terminology variations: None


In-Use: Optional. This field can be set to be used in the issue field configuration.


Mandatory: Optional. This field can be set as mandatory, but need not be.


Data type: A custom field has one of a number of custom field types, which is their data type. Issue custom fields are defined in General > Settings > Issue configuration > Custom fields.

General > Settings > Issue configuration > Custom fields:

Here you can edit the names, types and settings of your custom fields. Custom fields created here needs to be added to an issue field configuration to show up on your project. When a custom field has been created, it can then be used by any project.


General > Settings > Issue configuration > Issue fields:

Here, you can edit Issue Field Configurations (IFCs), and here you can add your custom fields to a configuration so that they show up in a project if that IFC is used in the project. 



General > Settings > Issue configurations > Issue rules.

Custom fields can be used in issue rules, either as a criterion, or being set in the rule action.




Use cases: Custom fields are a sort of wild card issue field, in that it can be configured in many ways.
